Become a Notary

The Notary Public Office of the Toledo Bar Association accepts applications for new, renewal, and attorney applicants.

All Notary Applicants

  • Must be a Lucas county resident;
  • Must be at least 18 years old;
  • Must present a valid Driver's License or state ID;
  • Must pay a $70.00 application fee, cash or check. We do not accept credit cards.

New Notary Applicants

After completing the application forms, the applicant will receive a Notary Guidebook and will be assigned an examination date. Exams are held on the second Thursday of each month at 3:00 pm.

The Notary commission is issued four to six weeks after the applicant has passed the examination.

After receiving the commission from the Ohio Secretary of State, the applicant must take the commission to the Lucas County Courthouse, 700 Adams Street, to be recorded.

Renewing a Notary Commission

A Notary may start the renewal process 60 days prior to expiration by completing forms at the Notary Office. Within four to six weeks, a new commission will be received from the Ohio Secretary of State. The Notary must record the new commission at the Lucas County Courthouse before notarizing any documents with the new commission date.
