Lawyer Referral & Information Service
Let us help you grow your business.
How the Program Works
The Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) fields hundreds of calls a month from individuals seeking legal assistance. We assess their needs, and if the caller is in a position to hire an attorney, we refer them to one of our attorney members who specializes in the area of law the caller needs. If it is clear the caller is not able to hire an attorney, or would be better served in a different way, we refer them to other resources in the community including Legal Aid, Job & Family Services, the Public Defender's Office, or ABLE.
Each caller who receives a referral is given the name and phone number of an attorney to set up an initial consultation. The caller is informed of the consultation fee and fee structure, should they choose to hire the attorney after the initial consultation.
To qualify for LRIS, an attorney must:
1. Fill out an application
2. Provide proof of professional liability insurance with minimum coverage of $100,000 per occurrence and $300,000 in the aggregate
3. Provide status updates as requested by the LRIS Director
4. Promptly remit any fees due
$125 for TBA members
$300 for non-TBA members
A $40 consultation fee should be charged to prospective clients for a 30 minute in-office visit. This fee is paid directly from the attorney to LRIS for the referral.
15% of all fees after the first $200 are due to the LRIS.
This fee structure does not apply to the Modest Means program.
"As a new attorney, and a new solo practitioner, getting started and building a brand has been neither quick, nor easy. The referrals that I have been sent have allowed me to start to establish a client base, which for me, has meant being profitable almost right out of the gate. The clients I have through LRIS are already screened to match my ability, education, and preferred practice areas."
