Toledo Bar Service Awards Presented
Community Service Award: James Brazeau, Esq.
The Community Service Award is given by the Toledo Bar Association Board of Directors to the TBA member who demonstrates a commitment to the community by unselfishly giving of his time in service to community organizations or activities that are not law related.
This year, the Community Service Award is presented to Jim Brazeau, partner in Robison Curphey & O’Connell and a trial attorney who focuses his practice on professional liability defense. He is a graduate of the University of Toledo and its College of Law.
The entire Toledo community benefits from Jim’s generosity of spirit. His activities cover the whole span of a lifetime: starting as Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, and also as a member of the Cemetery Committee and the Health Cabinet for St. Joe’s Parish in Sylvania!
In between, Jim has served on the Mom’s House Board for 22 years, including a stint as president while a new facility was built and funded. He is a former member of the Mercy St. Vincent Foundation and a trustee representative to the Grey Nun’s Margaret D’Youville Foundation.
These are just a few highlights of Jim’s community service. In addition, on the legal front, Jim is a perennial volunteer for legal services, serving as an ambassador for the Access to Justice Awards dinner, and as a fundraiser for what has now become the Justice for All Campaign.
Trustees Award: Joshua Peterson, Esq.
The Trustees Award is given by the Toledo Bar Association Board of Directors to a young member of the Association who exemplifies professionalism in the practice of law and who has demonstrated a commitment to improving the legal profession through active involvement in the TBA. Josh Peterson is an associate with Eastman & Smith, with a business law practice. Yet, somehow he finds time to be a very active member of the Toledo Bar.
Josh is currently serving on the TBA Board of Directors and on these committees: Real Estate; Young Lawyers; Diversity; Membership; and the CLE Committee where he previously served as secretary.
A graduate of UT’s College of Law and The Ohio State University, Josh continues to be active in the local community through the College of Law Alumni Affiliate, the Leadership Council of the United Way, and the Toledo Regional Chamber of Commerce. To name just a few of his activities.
