From the Courthouse To the Opera House

From the Courthouse to the Opera House: A Discussion on Scalia/Ginsburg and the Judicial System

Inspired by the unlikely friendship of U.S. Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Antonin Scalia, Scalia/Ginsburg is an American comic opera in one act that will premiere with Toledo Opera on April 17-19, 2020. Panelists Judge Jeffrey Sutton (United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit), Justice Judith Ann Lanzinger (retired, Ohio Supreme Court), and Professor Rebecca Zietlow (Charles W. Fornoff Professor of Law and Values at the University of Toledo College of Law) and moderator Judge James Carr (United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio) will engage this groundbreaking and provocative libretto as a starting point for a lively discussion of the judicial system. Topics will include the divide in academia and the courts between the Originalists and the Living Constitutionalists, the mechanics of multi-judge courts, and the accomplishments and legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
