First Gen Lawyer's Project

Connecting First Generation Attorneys and Law Students with a Local Network for Success.

MENTEE SIGN UP                  MENTOR SIGN UP

The First Gen Lawyer's Project of the Toledo Bar Association supports attorneys and law students who are first in their families to obtain a college or professional degree. The project aims to help support and develop new attorneys in our legal community by bringing successful aspects of the Fellowship Collaborative to a larger audience. The project will contain three components:

MENTORSHIPS

Through mentoring, we will create a network of Toledo attorneys who are eager to spend time with and build relationships with first generation attorneys and law students. Mentors/mentees will meet over lunch or coffee monthly throughout the year to create a connection that will help the attorney/law student as they establish their careers in the Toledo legal community.

PROGRAMMING & NETWORKING

The TBA will look to it's Diversity, Inclusion & Race Equity and Young Lawyer's Committees to determine what programming will be beneficial to first generation attorneys. Programing may include anything from lunch & learns and social gatherings to court tours and conversations with judges.

DIGITAL CONTENT

The First Gen Lawyer's Project launched a podcast at the TBA in early 2024. Join our hosts, Karl Strauss, Esq. and Noah Woods (3L), both members of the TBA, for conversations with established first generation attorneys discussing what led them to a career in law, how they have achieved their career goals, and the advice they would give new practitioners.  Stream podcast.

Through meaningful mentorships, programming and podcasts, the TBA hopes to create a network of resources and connections to help first generation attorneys and law students establish their careers and find a home within the Toledo legal community.
