Ohio High School Mock Trial District Competition - Toledo Region
The Toledo Bar Association (TBA) is pleased to partner with the Ohio Center for Law-Related Education (OCLRE) for the Ohio Mock Trial District Competition. This state-wide educational program allows high school students to compete and present their legal arguments in an original, unscripted simulated trial before a panel of TBA volunteers.
Local students are invited to register through OCLRE mid-fall and receive an original case written around a current constitutional issue important to the students. Each Ohio Mock Trial team consists of five to eleven students who assume the roles of witnesses and attorneys to present both sides of an original case based on a constitutional issue at Toledo Municipal Court in January. Judicial panels of local judges, attorneys and volunteer members of the Toledo Bar Association select the winning teams and choose the best individual student “lawyers” and “witnesses” for special recognition. District winners from throughout the state will advance to the regional competition. The state finals are held in Columbus. The state winner will compete in the national competition in in May.
This is a great opportunity for high-school students in the Toledo Region to learn first-hand about the law, court procedures and the judicial system while building critical thinking and public speaking skills.
